Facebook and relationships
Be it Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or some other mainstream media outlet, people now all have somewhere to post up their most random thoughts for others to read. Besides giving people the false idea that others ACTUALLY care about their most mundane activities or the drama in their life, it exposes their personal life to a much larger extent. It seems as if you could look at a persons profile and know their entire life story, past, present, including the people they interact with the most, and their future goals. Pretty soon there’ll no longer be the need for those much anticipated high school reunions. Why go when we can catch up with everyone on Facebook? Is it possible that our lives have now been condensed into a simple website? That the way that we define ourselves can be put into a few sentences under our “about me” sections? Risking that I be called a hypocrite because I too use Facebook, I believe that this media outlet has robbed us younger generations of the chance to live a more genuine lifestyle and not giving us the option to just sit at home in front of a computer to do “socializing” or “networking” Facebook and these other media outlets have made us lazy and our relationships impersonal. I wish I could say that I’ll be deleting my Facebook as soon as I publish this post but I know I wont. Sadly, its become too much a part of my life as I’m sure it has for others reading. I’m going to go update my status now.
